Let your camera be your art, and its images your history.” Artifact Uprising
I do my best to nourish my creativity. Reading, writing, being still, putting my clients on TV, walking, baking, traveling, being still again, listening to podcasts, taking my camera out each day to shoot something, making honey, experiencing nature, always looking for the new story, and of course blogging. I feel balanced and love my journey with my family… and even spending time alone when warranted. I am fully aware of how much time I spend on my iPhone. I calculate the time, happily.
Over the years, my iPhone has collected hundreds of little bits of footage, my memories stuck in this little device. Oh I know how to use the apps, create instagram stories and such. But actually piecing together my little films in a cohesive manner with music, and then sharing those with family and friends, alluded me.
You know that old adage that when the student is ready, the teacher appears? Well, that is precisely how I ended up in Xanthe Berkeley’s Handmade Filmmaking class. I’ve taken many of Xanthe’s classes for years like MAKE FILMS, Creating Time Capsules, Make Films 12 and I’ve always used my Canon DSLR on landscape mode. And I have often dilly dallied when it came time to create because I was stuck. Recently, I’ve been using my iPhone to capture movement and this latest handmade film class was a wonderful way to capture memories in “Day in the Life” films. Every. Single. Day. For. A. Week. I did not dilly dally. Now I’m focused on my “Week in the Life” film.

One thing that Xanthe always says that I have taken to heart is, “Do the work.” So, without further ado, below is the work I did. Six one-minute films in my day in the life series. I hope you enjoy them and they inspire you to do the work to capture your memories.
