this & that
I don’t know about you, but I spend far more time these days glued to the news, horrified by many of the recent events in our own country, and taking meaningful steps to resist. My professional life is also becoming more political and engaged with our world since I’m working with a PR client who is training women to run for office. I feel good about doing a small part to help create what is possible while, eyes wide open, paying attention to what currently is.
Having said that, I think a part of resistance is also paying attention to small joys and the mundane. So, I’m back with my periodic blog post This & That highlighting random happenings and things that catch my eye: places to go, books to read, or something to ponder.
summer moments, short and sweet

the hampton classic horse show
Don’t miss The Hampton Classic Horse Show in New York if you are around August 27- September 3. It’s held in the Hamptons, you can take a train, car, jitney or ferry to see these majestic horses. This can be a beautiful end to your summer vacation. If you are like me, you must get away from the news, the drama and the worry about how the country is doing. I have to relax, breathe and see the color around me.
I work at this horse show each year, it’s such an honor after years and years in the PR business. Find me if you come out.
balloon rides, locally of course
It just so happens that one of my favorite local August things to do is happening this weekend. The Balloon Festival in Plainville, Connecticut. I’m all about local these days. I used to wake up at 3am to get to this early so I could play around and photograph.
Don’t miss these ballooning opportunities coming up:
The New York State Festival of Balloons is Labor Day weekend in Dansville. The 45th anniversary of the Adirondack Balloon Festival is being held September 21-27. I experienced this balloon ride with Governors’ Camp in Masai Mara. A full list of festivals around the world are here.
and these stunners, just because
All photographs are taken by me, unless I have noted otherwise in the caption. I used my Canon 5D III and iPhone 7.
