Over The Moon About Festive Glimpses, Precious Objects & Personalized Gifts
December 11, 2014
Here is another installment in my Over the Moon About series: catching festive glimpses, precious objects on view from the sidewalk and a personalized gift for the travelers in your life.
Catching Festive Glimpses
Tonight on my way home, I caught a photograph of The Rockefeller Center tree just as snowflakes started to fall. I paired the picture of this iconic tree with a slow shutter speed experiment of a lighted tree at home.
A Downtown Exhibit of Intimate Precious Objects
All during the winter season, thousands of New Yorkers and visitors run around the city looking at the fancy holiday displays at big department stores like Saks. A few weeks ago, I found myself on 23rd Street at the famous Flatiron building getting away from the crowds. Nicely nuzzled under the Flatiron building itself {175 Fifth Avenue} is an art exhibit that focuses on journalists who have covered conflicts from WWII to Iraq. New Yorkers, you have until January 2, 2015 to see it for yourself. Or check out this piece in the New York Times.
Perfectly Sized & Perfectly Personalized
I seldom go on Etsy, but each time I do I find and buy something intriguing. I was looking for a small journal to take on my African Safari a few months ago and stumbled on Prairie Peasant. Laura, the owner, created a one-of-a-kind journal for my trip, complete with repurposed paper and a cover made from a map of Kenya. Perfect size and perfectly personalized. I took along some Japanese washi tape and each day on my safari affixed all sorts of memorabilia into my new notebook next to the notes on all of the animals I had photographed.
Laura just made two more journals for upcoming trips, one for my trip to Cuba in March and one for Spain and Morocco in May. I’m just thrilled.
