How To Get The Beach To Yourself

Slowing Down, Featured

For the third year in a row, we decided to take our beach vacation post-Labor Day. Why? Because generally when you zig as everyone else zags, you enhance your experience. What do I mean? Hitting Fire Island as everyone else begins work, means the throngs of vacationers are gone. We have the beach to ourselves. I can bicycle without running into anyone. We get easy reservations at restaurants. I can actually read three books, uninterrupted. And study my Spanish. And screen films for a film festival.

When have you zigged? Tell me about it!

  1. I love this! A few zigs I have taken are Paris and London in December, and Scotland over New Years.

I must have one of those carts!

My husband and I tend to do the same thing – we try not to travel during “normal” travel times. So much more fun to pretend we are on our own private beach.

  3. Phil says:

Looking at these awesome photos brings back great memories! Zigging is the best.

  4. Love your zig. I need to zag it up there.

  5. Raffie says:

Such a wonderful vacation! Great photos as always Nan!

  6. Katie Settel says:

Always love seeing your images! Love the ZAG idea too!
