Door Obsession In Three Places Full of Wonder Including NYC and Cuba
May 20, 2015
“Be an opener of doors.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Obama Opened Doors to Cuba after 56 Years” was the headline in USA Today while I was looking at my plane tickets to Havana. I find myself always taking photographs of doors abroad and even in New York City, my stomping ground during the week. I stroll up and down the streets, marveling at their beauty while wondering what lies behind.
The architecture in Havana left me breathless. I was invited to browse around some homes, only because our tour guide knew all of the locals. I could fill up an entire book with photographs. But for you I selected some of my absolute favorite doors from New York City and Havana. I also added in some doors from Cape Cod for good measure.
“I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened, and I’m not afraid to look behind them.”
― Elizabeth Taylor

I think it’s bizarre that I would walk past the doors and never see any beauty in them at all. And yet, when you put them together, I wouldn’t renovate them for anything, leaving them in their artistic state.
Love your eye on the world, Nancy
Your photographs are always so beautiful and lively. You even managed to capture these traits in the stillness of a doorway! Thanks for sharing and well done.
Love the doors in Cuba… Nothing like it!
These are just fantastic – each one so different from the other, but an entry into people’s lives. Love it!
All so beautiful. I’m fascinated by what could be inside. Can’t wait to see your “Doors of Spain” blog!
I love it my friend! I hope that we can go back to Cuba soon or maybe NYC to catch up. A big hug for you.
